Pratibha Patil (2007-2012) Shri Pranab Mukherjee (2012-2017) Shri Ram Nath Kovind (2017-present) Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the first President of India and served two terms from 1950 to 1962. Ram Nath Kovind is the current President of India, who has been in office since 2017. The President of India is elected by an electoral college comprising of the elected members of both the houses of Parliament and of the Legislative Assemblies of States and Union Territories. The term of the President is for five years, and the office is largely ceremonial with limited executive powers.
